Personal Story:

2012

This is when my health needs began to come into my consciousness. I was 24 and had gone back to college to complete my bachelors degree in vocal performance (opera). I was really tired. So tired that I would come home and fall asleep for hours at a time. I was getting married to the love of my life soon, and I wanted to make sure I had energy and felt good! I sought hep from a friend and local provider who is a chiropractor/nutritionist. We took some bloodwork and this began my very baby steps into the functional medicine, supplement, natural health world.

2015

After being married for about a year and half, I experience what I call my total breakdown. My body basically shut down and I experienced what I can only describe as a chronic, 2 week (although it really trickled down and last longer) panic attack. I could not sleep, if I woke up I would cry, I was exhausted during the day and my husband or my mom would have to take turns baby sitting me because I had intrusive thoughts and didn’t want to be alone during the day. It was scary.

During this time, I went to the doctor twice. The second time she offered me an anti-depressant. I knew that I was not depressed and it didn’t seem like the right step to me. I knew something in my body was really really wrong and I wanted to know what it was. I had begun to dig deeper into this “natural” world by listening to podcasts and reading books and I had heard and understood enough to ask about the potential of getting my hormones tested. The doctor replied that if I was cycling normally, she saw no reason to test my hormones.

I left with a prescription that I din’t want to take and total despair. I sat across from my husband at lunch, held his hand and cried. This HAD to be resolved. I couldn’t go on like this.

So I follow my gut and pursued hormone testing myself through a private company. This began my journey into functional lab testing and the value of test don’t guess!!! My life began to change from this moment forward.

2017

Once I got my hormones tested (and by the way, discovered they need LOTS of support) I was hooked - I wanted to know more and more and more. I wanted to learn about my body so this would never happen to me again and I wanted to be able to help others as well! In 2017 I chose to go through the Functional Diagnostic Nutrition certification course (FDN) to learn more about my body and get access to functional lab testing myself. I began to learn that if I wanted to address my hormones there was a LOT more I needed to focus on. Including my gut. Once I began testing my gut, I learned I had several stressors to address including multiple parasites and h pylori (a stomach bacteria). So I got to work.

2019

For two years, I continue to work on my own health and it continue to improve! I also started my own business as an FDNP, and began working with other women who needed support and help with their chronic gut complaints as well. Then, in Feb of 2019, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma.

It took some time to research, think, pray, and decide what I wanted to do. I knew that like many diseases, cancer didn’t show up over night. Once I learned that it could have begin developing 7-10 years prior it made a to of sense. 10 years prior I was NOT healthy and hadn’t been for a long time!!! Think, Oreo binges, boxes of teddy grahams, and 1/2 gallons of ice cream on top of mountain dew, snickers bars, a divorce, and tons of emotional stress!!!!

I was stage 1A when diagnosed meaning there was only one tumor that was active and it was small. I knew that everything I had done over the past few years had either slowed it down to stopped he progression and I decided to kook through pictures to see how long it had been there. Turns out, I found pictures of the lump in my neck 2 years prior to diagnosis!

I ultimately chose to do a combination of conventional chemotherapy and integrative care which included vitamin C IV’s and supplements to protect my body form the chemo without affecting it’s ability to kill the cancer. I talk more about this in detail in my book Healthy Through Hodgkin’s. Through this approach I was able to go through 3 months of ABVD treatment successfully and continue to be in remission. This process made me passionate about advocating for integrative care with cancer patients because I saw how my body responded and recovered so well, while others have such a difficult time once treatment is over because they are given no support.

2020 - NOW

Now I continue to run a thriving practice helping both women that struggle with chronic digestive complaints like constipation, acid reflux, bloating, weight loss resistance and brain fog fatigue, in addition to offering similar support to those who have been out of chemotherapy for 6 months or more and want support during recovery.

I absolutely LOVE supporting my clients through a whole life approach that includes lifestyle, nutrition, stress management, sleep, supplements and functional lab testing to we can really individualize the approach for each unique person!
